Pumping Station

2010 May 2

Hidden in a quiet corner of the Meatpacking District, The Gansevoort Pumping Station was once part of a network of water pumps that could be activated with a phone call to supply water at high pressure for fighting fires. Most of the block this building sits on will soon be razed to make room for the new home of the Whitney Museum.
