Toronto Island Airport

2010 July 5

This is Toronto’s small inner city airport, located mere minutes from downtown. The relatively new Porter Airlines makes its home here and runs scheduled commuter flights all over the region, including many a day to Newark – the route I traveled today. The airport is actually located on the edge of Toronto Island, which sits in Lake Ontario just off Toronto’s shoreline. So, getting to the airport requires a short (400ft) ferry ride. The airport itself is efficient and calm, and the Porter gate area is better than most first class lounges I’ve been in. If you’re coming to Toronto, this is the way to travel.

Oddly enough, around the same time I was leaving Toronto via Porter Airlines, so was the Queen of England. She flew on a Porter charter from Toronto to Waterloo, Ontario this morning. Her next stop? New York. I think she might be following me.
