Heat Wave In Washington Square

2010 July 6

It’s so hot and humid in the city that people are finding relief wherever they can. Even en masse in Washington Square Park’s giant fountain (it’s actually designed to double as a wading pool.) This is one of those rare New York moments when total strangers come together to enjoy something special. A great reminder of why I love living here!

By the way, I made the mistake of leaving home last night without my camera. So, this is the first iPhone picture on the blog. I apologize for the low quality, but I think it was worth posting anyway.

I totally agree! The Washington Square Park fountain gives both community and relief on these crazy hot days! I jumped in myself and I have to say it was as refreshing as any pool! I love that in New York, people can jump in a fountain fully clothed amongst complete strangers – just another day in NYC.
