File this under “important things that are only a few blocks from me and that I’ve never noticed.” New York’s Diamond District, a single block on 47th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue, is estimated to handle 90% of the diamonds entering the United States. Each end of the block is marked by two of these horrid pylons, proving that, especially where diamonds are concerned, just because it’s big doesn’t mean it’s pretty.
