Subway Flashback

2010 August 16

I snapped this one at the MTA’s Transit Museum in Brooklyn. Located in an old subway stop, it contains a few interesting relics from the more than 100 years of New York subway history, the highlight of which is a large collection of historic subway and elevated train cars. This shot comes from their cafeteria, which is lined with old signage from the system. The museum offered no information, but this particular sign must be from before 1940, since that’s when the 9th Avenue El closed.
