Passenger on the C Train

2010 October 13

The vast New York subway system, by necessity, uses train cars (“rolling stock” in MTA lingo) of widely varying age and condition. Routes that use newer stock tend to keep that newer stock, and routes that use older stock tend to keep that older stock. I’m sure there’s no intention to cast judgement upon a route or a particular part of town that route serves, but often, that’s the message. The C train seems to always use the oldest and most rattly cars, which is not making this woman’s morning any better.
