The Point

2011 February 10

Today, a little bit of subway minutia. Before the conductor can open the car doors, MTA regulations require that he or she confirm that the train is properly in the station by physically pointing at the conductor board, a black and white striped marker in the exact center of every subway station. For a long time, I just assumed that this regulation existed. But recently, a friend, who thought my assumption required some checking, asked a conductor while she was mid point. And, of course, I was vindicated.
