Two In The Bush

2011 June 23

I have a great appreciation for good nature photography, but don’t have much of an interest in shooting it myself. I couldn’t resist this performance on Block Island, though. When confronted with a threat (me), this chick hides motionless inside a small tuft of grass. Its kind of like a fat guy trying to hide behind a bamboo stem. And mom’s bright yellow beak is like a neon sign. Still, it must work well enough. The colony there was thriving.

By the way, a biologist friend tells me that these are greater black-backed gulls.
